BORING OLD BUSSAGE
A while ago I was reading about the photographer William Eggleston, how early on in his career he struggled with finding his subject matter. One day he told a friend that there was nothing to photograph because everything surrounding him was ugly. In response the friend told him to photograph 'the ugly stuff'.
Bussage isn't particularly inspiring and when you've lived here for over 30 years of your life it's even less exciting as a project of discovery. So, instead of trying to discover something new, I set about photographing it just as it is.
Not much happening.
Familiar.
Ordinary.
Boring.
The irony in a project like this is that the more you start to purposefully focus on the familiar, the more the simple things become interesting.
